A majority of 76% of the people in the country have access to safe drinking water. Understanding the process can remove the stigma, and highlight the importance of these facilities for the processing of water.
Water is first filtered through the bar screen. These screens collect large pieces of debris that has been mixed into the water such as flushable wipes, branches, and more. Once the particles have grown too large for water to move properly the screens must be regularly cleaned.
Then, water is pumped through chambers of grit. Chambers are designed to attract tiny particles such as dirt and sand that make the water clearer.
The water is then transferred to aeration basins. The aeration basins push bubbles upwards from the bottom of the flowing water. Then, whatever was in the water up to the moment will be moved into the air, giving the possibility of easy removal.
